Safari, anyone?

This weekend, we took the kids on a quick trip to San Antonio as a way to kick off Spring Break. We decided to try something new, and spent a day at the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch, which is a drive thru wildlife ranch. I'm not even a big fan of animals, but I have to admit that it was quite an experience and the kids loved it, too!

With your admission, you get a bag of feed. We opted to pay a little bit extra and get some more feed (I'm glad we did) and a guidebook. Emily had fun trying to identify all of the different animals that we saw.

Here are some of the highlights:

This ostrich was all attitude. We cracked up, though, because it came right up to our window to eat and it was pretty greedy so Jason had to roll up the window. He put a piece of food up by the window and the ostrich started pecking at the window.

Yep, that's a wildebeest!

When Emily saw these little guys, she said, "I hope there are no hunters around." Jason and I couldn't help but laugh because when I told him about the place and showed him the website before we left, he said, "Is hunting allowed?"

I can't remember the details on these guys, but I know I didn't want to mess with them!

This guy and I became fast friends. He stuck his entire head into the car and didn't want to leave. Even when we started to drive away, he just kept following along with the car.

Jason had two zebras eating out of his hand at one point!

Jason made a few other friends along the way. He was a lot braver with the animals than I was!

Is your mama a llama? Emily loves the llama books so she was excited to see this little guy!

I think we spent about two hours just driving through the area and we all loved it. They had a petting zoo, too, but it was really cold and rainy on the day we went, so we didn't really want to spend much time there.

We went to Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch a couple years ago when we were in Texas. Raelee was just a few weeks ago, but Daniel was old enough to really enjoy it. We had so much fun!! One of the big-horn type sheep didn't like us too much and rammed our car. I still have a small ding in the passenger car door. :)
