Pantry invasion!

Jacob figured out how to open doorknobs on Friday. One complication from this came as he decided ti was quite fun to slam and then open doors repeatedly throughout the house. I could live with that. Then, at naptime, we found another complication. Instead of laying down in his bed and taking a nap like he usually did, now that he knew he could 'escape' he decided it would be fun to get up and run around the house...repeatedly. I learned to live with that. Yesterday afternoon, he discovered that he could also now open the door to the game closet.....which meant that while I was trying to clean things up in other parts of the house and thought that he was playing with Emily in his room, he was instead unloading bits and pieces of things from the game closet. We got it all cleaned up and put a lock on the closet.

This kid is determined to outsmart us and I think this whole doorknob thing is his greatest feat yet. His latest accomplishment? Multiple pantry (and refrigerator) raids when no one is looking.

Like father, like son...

When Jason and I were first dating, one night we rented a movie and then stopped at the grocery store to pick up some ice cream. He picked out a pint of Ben and Jerry's and asked me if I wanted anything. I told him that I would just share with him and was informed that a pint was "a Jason sized serving."

Jacob is like his dad in a lot of ways and one of them is that they both share a love of ice cream. Here's a picture of him after his very messy encounter with ice cream last night!

Worth sharing!

Emily is at a stage right now where she loves making cards. Last night, I told her that today was our anniversary and explained to her that "anniversary" was a day to celebrate the day when we got married.

Tonight when Jason got home from work, she presented us each with an envelope with a card that she had made in it. Jason's included a dollar that she had taken out of her piggy bank. We just started doing a chore chart and she really does have to work hard for her money each week, so I thought it was a really sweet gesture. Then, I opened my card and it had a dime in it. I didn't say anything about the difference. I couldn't help but laugh, though, when she said, "Yeah, mom, I decided to give you some money, too, after I found it on the floor." I guess I know where I rate!

Seven years!

Today Jason and I hit the seven year mark. Sometimes it doesn't seem like it has been that long and other times it seems like it's been a long time coming :) I remember our wedding day because I couldn't stop smiling. That whole day was a whirlwind of events (our sealing, then the family BBQ, and then our reception), and I remember how tired, but happy, we were at the end of the day.

Our first year of marriage we got to travel a few places and we bought our first home.

Right before our second anniversary, Emily joined our family, and we quickly learned that having a baby DOES change everything, but are so grateful that she joined our little family.

We sold our house in Utah, literally, on our third anniversary, and packed up our moving van. I remember that the hotel we were staying in put us in a room that was designed for "little people" (and with Jason at 6'6", you can imagine that) and on top of that, the bed was broken and slanted downward. The hotel was booked and so the only other room they had available was a conference room with a bed that pulled down out of the wall and they woke us up early that next morning to hurry up and clear out because they had a function that was going to be held in there.

We spent our fourth year of marriage settling into our new home and adjusting to life in Texas. I also found out that I was pregnant with Jacob.

Our fifth year of marriage, Jacob came along!

We spent our sixth year having fun with our kids. (would you believe that picture was taken at SPRING BREAK?)

Our marriage has had its ups and downs as all marriages do, but we have always been able to work through things and come out with a better understanding of each other in the end and I feel blessed because of that. I'm so grateful for Jason and for the friendship we share and have been able to build upon through the years.

I have no idea what this next year will hold for us, but I'm excited to find out.

You're gonna miss this!

For some reason, I get sucked into silly quizzes on Facebook. The other day, I took one that said, "What Country Song Are You?" My result was "You're Gonna Miss This" by Trace Adkins, which I thought was fitting because it has really been hitting me lately how quickly my kids are growing up and I try to hang on to those precious little moments.

I turned up some music for the kids to dance. Jacob came out in Emily's Hannah Montana cowboy boots. My mom bought these boots for Emily for rodeo day, but we've had so many funny "happenings" with them.

One Saturday afternoon, I asked Emily if she wanted to go run errands with me. She had a soccer game earlier in the day and was still in her jersey and soccer shorts. She asked if she could wear those and I said that was fine. Then, she asked if she had to wear her cleats and I told her no and said that she could wear "whatever shoes she wanted" thinking she would put on some flip flops or sandals. WRONG! She came out in her soccer uniform with her hot pink Hannah Montana boots. I laughed so hard I cried at the picture (but unfortunately my camera didn't have batteries). I had to make a correction and tell her I guess she couldn't wear "any" shoes after all.

Last week was my first week off from school for summer vacation, and I loved every minute of it and I'm so grateful I get to have eight weeks off with my cute kids!
